Letter from Mr. Ibarra
I just wanted to share some of the work that we did with our first ESL summer academy. ESL Summer Academy (a structured enrichment program for english language learners grade 6th-8th).
It was a structured as an enrichment program for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade ELLs with a few returning 22 students who just graduated based around the theme of citizenship. The kids had a great time and I can truly say it was a success.
Hi Vicky,
This is John Ibarra who worked with Sonia Flannory over the summer for the ESL academy that you most graciously sponsored.
First and foremost, I just wanted to say thank you for your support this summer. The kids had a great time and especially enjoyed the lunches that you provided (according to a survey I took, it was the number one most liked part of our summer program amongst other learning experiences :). Although the gardening program did not work out, I am still very appreciative for the contacts you gave us and the work you did to make those visits to the community garden and the farm a reality for our kids. I hope to begin planning early on in the year so that the last minute planning does not happen like this past summer and hopefully greater things can happen.
I am currently creating a website about the summer academy with photos and descriptions of some of the activities that the kids did, and some work samples from some of the lessons. I am applying the finishing touches and hope to finish it by the end of this weekend / next week.
I would like to add a logo for your organization, My Brother's Keeper Inc, because of your support. I also would love to add one or two of the group photos that you took with the kids to the page (All with your permission, of course).
Could you send me the group photos you have and a logo that I could post of your organization?
Thank you once again for all your support this summer and I hope to continue collaborating with you and your organization during the year / next summer if we introduce further programs.
