Well it's been a while since we have been able to update our website. We like many others have experienced some difficulties over the past 3 years. During the pandemic some of our key volunteers lost jobs and had to reinvent themselves, while others moved to other states or countries. Some of the sites where we ran programs closed for a year forcing us to shut down. Finding a new normal has been challenging but not impossible. Isolation produced a compassion and a longing to be reunited with or our neighbors, families and friends. We realized we are truly our brother's keeper. We had to make adjustments in how we helped those around us, but the work continues to move forward. Here are a few pics of what we were able to do in the community 2019-2020
Christmas 2019
Through the generosity of our donors and community partners, we were able to provide gifts for families in need. Volunteers helped with serving food, shopping, wrapping and distributing gifts to churches, shelters and schools. Following a special Christmas presentation and dinner hosted by TSC Bronx at Jordan L Mott Middle School 22 we distributed gifts to all the children who attended and gifts for adults. We also sponsored a trip to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Families were able to enjoy this amazing experience together.
SPRING 2020
RICE DONATION FROM FDNY Engine 92/Ladder 44/Battalion 17. In the Spring of 2020 MBK partnered with other NFP's to meet the immediate needs of families in the community. This day a local church allowed the Sheltering Arms Pantry from MS 22 to use their dining hall to distribute food to families. Even though the school was closed, the needs of the people were met. MBK contributed the rice donated by the FDNY, along with tuna, sardines and beans from our Feed NY partners. Go Team!
WELL CHECKS
The well being of families, seniors and essential workers was vitally important to us. We were a bridge between educators and students during virtual learning, between essential workers and the community. Knowing there was some one who cared for them during the pandemic brought healing to many hearts.
MBK GIVES BACK TO WORLD VISION
World vision is a humanitarian organization that partners with NFP organizations to help them serve people in their communities. In the summer of 2020 MBK gave back with a day of volunteering at the Bronx Storehouse.
THE JOY OF CHRISTMAS
Christmas of 2020 still found many of us indoors except for when we went to stores or appointments. Many Christmas activities and shows were cancelled due to the pandemic. MBK brought the Joy of Christmas to the community with a walk through park lighting. The first day families came out to play as we waited till dusk to light the park. MBK distributed food bags to adults and toys to the children. This was a collaboration with the NYC Parks Department and volunteers from a local church. We also decorated the courtyard of Horizons Juvenile facility in the Bronx, NY.
